The concert
Explore the Rhine and the haunting, tuneful music of German composers before J.S. Bach. Destinations include
variations by the virtuoso gambist August Kühnel and a trio sonata by Johann Philipp Krieger, called the greatest
German composer of his time. A suite from renowned gambist Johannes Schenck's
Le nymphe di Rheno, Johann
Jakob Froberger's lament,
Le passage du Rhin, and transcriptions of the master J.S. Bach complete the tour.

Empire Viols formed in 1994. The core group of two viols and harpsichord frequently expands to include more

eighteenth centuries. The 2008-2009 season featured a tour of the southwestern United States.
